COVAXIN-- India's first COVID-19vaccine

INTRODUCTION:Bharat Biotech, a pioneering biotechnology company, located in Hyderabad, is known for its world-class R&D manufacturing capabilities. Their mission is to deliver affordable, safe and high quality vaccine and bio-therapeutics that help people to prevent from diseases.
COVAXIN, Bharat's indigenous COVID-19 vaccine by Bharat Biotech is developed by working together with the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR)-- National Institute of Virology (NIV).

HOW IT'S MADE AND HOW IT WORKS:
The vaccine was developed by BBIL in collaboration with National Institute of Virology(NIV). NIV isolated a strain of the novel coronavirus from an asymptomatic (showing no symptoms) Covid-19 patient and send it to BBIL in the month of May.
Covaxin is an inactivated vaccine--vaccine that uses dead viruses.
Once the vaccine is injected into a human, it has no power to infect or multiply itself because it's a dead virus. It's function is to only introduce itself to the immune system so that an antibody is produced to fight with it. Thus, the immune system get trained to fight with the actual viruses when it really enters the human body.

APPROVAL:
COVAXIN underwent pre-clinical testing on animals such as pigs and mice to see if it's safe before the firm approach CDSCO for approval to move on to human trials.
The vaccine received DCGI approval for Phase 1&2 Human Clinical Trials and trials will be done accross Bharat from July 2020.
